Anti-War Vigil This week (3/20-3/27) in Independence park, kitty corner from Rahm Emanuel's office on Irving Park at Hamlin (3700 W). The vigil is being kept 8am-8pm daily Monday, March 20th through Friday, March 24th.

The folks anchoring the vigil are giving up a full week to this effort. Please look at your schedule and find a couple of hours where you can help them out. Think about bringing a cup of hot soup or coffee - something to help them keep warm and keep their spirits up. The weather this week is seeming more like winter than it is spring.

Members of the CPT (Christian Peacemaker Team) in Chicago have been anchoring the vigil which began at Dennis Hastert's office on March 10 and goes through a closing rally at 10A this Saturday, March 25th.

Dr. Zidan is a member of a delegation of four courageous Iraqi women who have come to the U.S. to share their first-hand accounts of the effects of war and occupation on the people of Iraq. They are here to speak out for peace and to urge the US government to end its military presence in Iraq. The mother of four children, Dr. Zidan is a pharmacist and founder of the Women and Knowledge Society, a grass roots group aiding victims of the war, especially women and orphans. DR. Anti-War Coalition Forming A new anti-war coalition is forming with a founding conference occuring on April 1st in Champaign. There are 49 organizations signed The organization, ICPJ (Illinois Coalition for Peace & Justice) has no structure or action agenda. That is being created in Champaign. About a dozen groups, including North Shore Anti-War Coalition got this thing rolling when some Chicago groups met with some suburban groups late last fall.

Venezuela Supreme Court Justice DePaul NLG will host Justice Vegas Torrealba of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice of Venezuela on Tuesday, April 4 at 12:30-2 p.m. in Room 803, 25 E. Jackson Blvd. There will be free lunch.

Immigant Rights March May 1st, join hundreds of thousands in Chicago and other cities across the country as they demonstrate against the racist anti-immigration forces like the minute men and the Sensenbrenner Bill. Stay tuned for march details. May 1st is also international labor day, whose history dates back to Chicago, the struggle for the 8 hour workday and Haymarket.

Support Immigrant Rights by boycotting the financial supporters of Represenative James Sensenbrenner: Miller beer, Budweiser, Corona, Pepsi Cola, Bacardi, the entertainment giant Disney and Marathon gasoline stations.

Anti-Minute Men 5 May 5th- 6:00 Room 220 of the student center. Jim Fennerty, former President of the Chicago branch of the National Lawyers Guild will speak with members of the Anti-Minute Men 5 on the charges against them for protesting against the racist minutemen.

Conscientious Objector Speaks at DePaul May 11-, 6:00, room 314a of the student center. Robert Austin was in the US army and applied for conscience objector status. Come hear his story about how the anti-war movement supports the troops because we want them out of harms way unlike the chicken hawks in DC.

Argentinian Cooperatives May 19- 7:00 pm, Levan 306. Come learn about worker owned cooperatives in Argentina from people who lived with the workers. The Workers in Argentina are organizing themselves in democratic way where they can vote for who their manager is and they are all paid the same wage. Protest Death Penalty in Il. Joseph Birkett has decided to seek the death penalty against Brian Dugan. Dugan has already confessed to the crime, and will sign off on it, barring a non-capital case. He is already serving 2 life without parole sentences. Therefore, he will never get out of prison, will not be a threat to society, and will not bring solace to the Nicarico family.

Joe Birkett on the other hand, as aspirations for running for Attorney General. Even after he lost significantly along side Judy Bar in the last elections. This case epitmizes the use of the death penalty for political gain...

Currently in DuPage County, they are cutting shelters, medical services for the needy, educational materials within the schools, etc? Yet, Birkett has decided to seek the death penalty for a man that will never be released from prison, on a case that has already cost DuPage County over 8 Million dollars.

Protest War at UCCAttention all anti-war students and student groups trough out Chicago. The largest dormitory in the world, University Center, will soon be home to a brand new "Army Career Center."

The students of Columbia College Chicago invite you to an open forum and meeting regarding a possible action we could do demanding the Army Career Center's immediate shut down the day it opens. Please come and share your ideas and perspectives.

The meeting will take place on Thursday April 12th at 623 S. Wabash (room 811). We will begin around 7:30pm.
